How Do I Become a Disney Travel Agent?

How to become a travel agent who specializes in Disney, from Navigator's University and the College of Disney Knowledge to your first bookings.

If you light up every time someone mentions a Disney vacation, I understand that feeling completely.

Maybe you are the person your friends already call when they start planning a trip. You know the parks, you love the details, and helping a family have a magical time brings you real joy.

So it makes sense to ask whether that love could become a real business. I am glad you are asking, because it truly can when you start the right way.

How do I become a travel agent who specializes in Disney?

You become a travel agent who specializes in Disney by joining a host agency, completing real training, and learning to plan and book Disney vacations for travelers as an independent contractor. At Somewhere Beyond Vacations, our advisors are called Navigators, and training happens through Navigator’s University with dedicated mentors beside you. That training includes Disney’s own College of Disney Knowledge, offered at no cost. You start as a Navigator in Training and grow into a Junior Navigator, so you are learning with support instead of guessing on your own.

Do I have to work for Disney itself?

This surprises a lot of people, so let me share it gently.

Most travel agents who specialize in Disney do not work directly for Disney. They work through an agency like ours, helping travelers plan and book their vacations while the agency provides the training, systems, and support behind them.

That is actually good news. It means you can build your own business from home, care for your own travelers, and still have a whole team behind you while you do it.

What training will I need before I book Disney trips?

Training is where a love of Disney becomes a skill families can trust.

Navigator’s University is our own training, and it runs over 30 days. It is a focused foundation built around Disney and travel insurance, and it teaches the full trip process in depth, from the first conversation through the welcome home. While you are a Navigator in Training, you do not make any real bookings until the training is complete. Your dedicated Navigator Mentors answer questions, cheer you on, and help you learn how to care for travelers well.

Disney’s own training is included too. It is called the College of Disney Knowledge, and Disney offers it to travel sellers at no cost. As part of Navigator’s University you work through Disney’s six Basics courses in order, Aulani, Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and National Geographic Expeditions. Then you take Disney’s final test. That gives you seven certificates in all, one for each course plus one for the final test, and you add each one to your TravelBreeze bio as you earn it.

When you graduate, you become a Junior Navigator and your first five trips focus on Disney, with mentors and the whole team supporting you. Other kinds of travel open up later through expansion training when you are ready for them.

And when we say support all day every day, we really mean it. Our Navigators live around the world in different time zones, so there is almost always somebody awake and in our Discord ready to help, along with smaller support chats where you can ask anything without feeling lost in the crowd.

What is the honest part I should hear first?

Here is the honest part first.

Loving Disney is a wonderful start, but it is not the whole job. Real travelers need someone who will listen carefully, watch the details, and stay calm and kind when plans need to change.

Now for the good part. You do not have to be perfect before you begin, and you do not have to figure it all out alone. Training, mentors, and a supportive team are exactly how a Disney fan grows into a trusted advisor, one traveler at a time.

What does it cost to get started at SBV?

We keep our costs clear and simple, the way I would want them explained to a friend.

Getting started costs $275 and covers onboarding, email, training, a personalized bio page, and ongoing support. There is also a $50 Florida Seller of Travel license paid to the state, and the California license is included at no extra cost.

Our annual fee is $150 if you made six or more bookings in the past year, or $275 if you made fewer. Errors and omissions insurance is included, and there is an opportunity for a CLIA card, along with FAM trips and discounted travel.

How do travel agents who specialize in Disney get paid at SBV?

Your earnings are paid monthly by direct deposit after the traveler completes travel.

Your earnings level is based on your total bookings over the past twelve months, with a three month grace period before that level drops. You can also earn through our Holidays All Year program, which adds five percent on vacations that include a major holiday, plus monthly Top Performer bonuses.

We have no minimum booking requirement, but we do expect at least twenty hours a week building your business, and we do an annual review of performance and participation.

What is it really like on this team?

This is my favorite part to tell you about.

SBV really is a family, even down to the personal things in life. People here will know your name, celebrate your wins, and sit with you through the hard days too.

Our annual summit invites families, because the people cheering you on at home are part of this story. We are based in central Florida in Sorrento, and we welcome international advisors too, with Navigators in Malta, Australia, and Mexico.
