The Mirage Becomes Hard Rock Las Vegas
Prepare to bid farewell to one of the most iconic resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. The Mirage Hotel & Casino, a groundbreaking property opened by Steve Wynn, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation. Hard Rock International (HRI) has announced that operations at The Mirage will cease on July 17, 2024, as it begins its transformation into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas. This new integrated resort will feature a stunning 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel, prominently located on the famous Las Vegas Strip.
The Transformation of a Landmark
Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, expressed gratitude to the Las Vegas community: “We'd like to thank the Las Vegas community and team members for warmly welcoming Hard Rock after enjoying 34 years at The Mirage. We also extend our thanks to the unions, community leaders, local and state government organizations, and the Gaming Commission for their support and fair negotiations over the past year. We are also grateful to MGM for assisting with our transition.”
Joe Lupo, president of The Mirage, added, “While we pause for the incredible transformation of this iconic property, I'd like to thank all team members at The Mirage for their incredible commitment and helping us provide memorable experiences for our guests. We are planning to host collaborative hiring events with other employers in the Las Vegas community over the coming months. Connecting the thousands of talented Mirage team members who provide outstanding service with new employment opportunities is a top priority.”
Job Creation and Economic Impact
The new Hard Rock property is expected to double the number of current jobs at The Mirage for the Las Vegas community, while the renovation of the resort will generate over 2,500 construction jobs. Hard Rock will pay approximately $80 million in severance packages for eligible union and non-union employees remaining with the property through the cessation of operations.
Guest Reservations and Future Plans
Guests with room reservations or show tickets beyond July 14, 2024, will have their bookings automatically canceled and refunded. Reservations made through third-party providers or online travel agencies will also be canceled, and guests should contact their provider directly for rebooking availability or possible refunds. A New Era for The Mirage
The Mirage has been a beloved destination, offering contemporary accommodations, dynamic entertainment such as The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil, Shin Lim: LIMITLESS with special guest Colin Cloud, and the Center Stage Comedy series, top restaurants, and a luxurious spa and salon. Since December 19, 2022, The Mirage has been owned and operated by Hard Rock International, seamlessly transitioning into a new era filled with refreshed energy.
Mirage guests and visitors can continue to earn and use points on Hard Rock's global platform Unity at more than 150 participating Hard Rock Cafes, Hotels, and Casinos worldwide. Interestingly, this isn't Hard Rock’s first venture in Las Vegas—they formerly owned and operated the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas from 1995 to 2020, which was transformed into Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, opening in March 2021.
