Crafted by renowned Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett, these outfits will boast a distinctive Bahamian flair, drawing inspiration from the vibrant spirit of Junkanoo – the country's signature festival renowned for joyous music and lively parades.
Born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas, surrounded by the art and fashion scene, Elyett's creations capture the essence and colorful hues of island life. With a history of dressing Miss Universe contestants, celebrities, brides, cover girls, and government officials, Elyett brings a wealth of experience and authenticity to his designs.
Elyett's journey into the world of fashion began at the young age of 13, coincidentally in 1998 – the same year Disney Cruise Line set sail with Disney Magic. Now, as Disney Lookout Cay prepares to open its doors in June 2024, Elyett's creations will take center stage, embodying a celebration of Bahamian culture through the eyes of the country's talented artists.
At Lookout Cay on the island of Eleuthera, guests will be treated to Mickey and Minnie's exclusive looks as part of a vibrant collection of works by local creators, immersing them in the rich artistic tapestry of the Bahamas.
"The beauty of Mickey and Minnie's looks is that they are literally 'Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,'" Elyett expressed. "When you talk about the print, pattern, color, texture of Junkanoo, they've got that." Additionally, Elyett will be crafting special styles for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, and Dale, ensuring that each character exudes Bahamian charm while enjoying the wonders of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
