Introducing Tiana's Bayou Adventure: A Musical Journey through New Orleans

We are thrilled to share some exciting news from Disney's Imagineering project team! As they work tirelessly on creating the magical attraction, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, they are drawing inspiration from the vibrant city of New Orleans. Today, Disney is delighted to announce their collaboration with two esteemed artists, PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard, who will be lending their musical genius to this enchanting experience.

Both PJ Morton and Terence Blanchard hail from the heart of New Orleans, making them the perfect choice to help Disney craft a musical masterpiece that pays homage to the city that first inspired their endeavor with Princess Tiana. Their contributions will be instrumental in creating a lyrical love letter to the region, blending original compositions by PJ Morton with captivating renditions of fan-favorite music from the beloved film, "The Princess and the Frog," produced by Terence Blanchard.

PJ Morton is a four-time Grammy winner known for his exceptional talent across various music genres. As an independent artist, he has garnered six consecutive Grammy nominations, showcasing his remarkable artistry. PJ will be writing, arranging, and producing the original song for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. In addition, he will be performing and producing new arrangements of songs from "The Princess and the Frog" that will resonate within the attraction. During Disney's journey, they had the privilege of discussing this collaboration with PJ Morton at the historic Preservation Hall, immersing themselves in the rich musical heritage of New Orleans.

Terence Blanchard, a seven-time Grammy award-winning artist renowned for his trumpet expertise and remarkable discography, will be leading the music arrangement for the attraction's queue. Working closely with Disney's team, Terence will curate a selection of songs from "The Princess and the Frog" and iconic themes from New Orleans. Just like Tiana's delectable recipes, the music will fuse a medley of instrumental ingredients, creating an auditory feast for the senses.

Drawing inspiration from the musical styles that have originated or found a permanent home in New Orleans, our Imagineers have brought these invigorating sounds to life through cutting-edge Audio-Animatronics figures. For instance, Disney introduces us to the new rendering of Prince Naveen's brother, Ralphie, who exudes the spirit of New Orleans in every move as he joyfully grooves to the rhythm of his soulful song. And don't miss the lively band of friendly critters playing jubilant Zydeco-style music, filling the air with irresistible energy.

It has been their utmost priority to ensure that the attraction properly represents the diverse and vibrant culture of New Orleans. That's why they have sought the expertise and input of local voices to bring Tiana's story to life authentically. During their visit to New Orleans, they had the privilege of stopping by Dooky Chase's Restaurant, founded by Leah Chase, one of the inspirations for Princess Tiana. There, the Disney team had the opportunity to discuss Tiana's impact and the invaluable connection they have formed with the Chase family. Stella Chase Reese, Leah's daughter, shared the profound influence of Tiana, saying, "Dream big and you can make it happen."

To gain a deeper understanding of the city's essence, Disney's Imagineers commissioned the talented New Orleans artist, Sharika Mahdi, to contribute her unique perspective to our creative process. They visited Sharika at her renowned alma mater, the YAYA (Young Aspirations Young Artists) Arts Center, where she unveiled her final commissioned piece for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. This stunning painting beautifully encapsulates Tiana's story, emphasizing the importance of family, food, and, of course, music. Although it doesn't depict a specific moment from the attraction, it serves

Sharika Mahdi, a talented artist born and raised in New Orleans, brings her colorful and free-flowing style to her paintings. In her works for our project, she captures the essence of Tiana and her friends, transports us to a lively jazz club scene where frogs join in on the musical magic, and even showcases Mama Odie and her trusty "seeing eye snake," Juju.

The Disney Imagineer's time in the beautiful city of New Orleans was truly unforgettable. They were filled with gratitude for the invaluable experiences and insights shared by the local community. Now, their project team is back at the Imagineering campus, continuing to pour their passion and dedication into this project that holds a special place in their hearts. They are honored to be bringing Tiana's Bayou Adventure to life at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort next year.

"We eagerly await the day when we can welcome you to join us on this musical journey through the enchanting bayou, filled with the vibrant spirit and rich cultural tapestry of New Orleans. Tiana's Bayou Adventure promises to be an experience where the power of music and storytelling come together to create unforgettable memories for all who embark upon it."
